Stephen Olasunkanmi Taiwo (Nigeria)

Focus of Fellowship: Improving rice productivity in inland valleys through on-farm and experiment station research on weed management.

The sponsoring Center is the Africa Rice Center (WARDA).

Gustav Komla Mahunu (Ghana )

Focus of Fellowship: Enhancing rice production through new knowledge that better enables scientists to develop (and farmers to choose) varieties able to compete with weeds.

The sponsoring Center is the Africa Rice Center (WARDA).

Henry Kaweesi (Uganda)

Focus of Fellowship: An assessment of the impact of in situ conservation of bananas in eastern Africa.

The sponsoring Center is Bioversity International.

Marian Dorcas Quain (Ghana)

Focus of Fellowship: Use of molecular markers to better understand the genetic diversity of plantain, make its conservation more efficient and advance plantain improvement.

The sponsoring Center is Bioversity International.

Jeremiah Mosioma Okeyo (Kenya)

Focus of Fellowship:Understanding the effect of long-term conservation tillage (i.e., reduced or no tillage) on soil physical properties under experimental conditions in the subhumid tropics.

The sponsoring Center is the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).

Syed Ajijur Rahman (Bangladesh)

Focus of Fellowship: A village-level study on the evolution of agroforestry in upland areas – from shifting cultivation to more stable farming systems.

The sponsoring Center is the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).

Xuecai Zhang (China)

Focus of Fellowship: Integration of molecular marker-assisted selection into conventional maize breeding for more efficient genetic improvement.

The sponsoring Center is the International Center for Maize and Wheat Improvement (CIMMYT) .

Tameru Alemu (Ethiopia)

Focus of Fellowship: Identifying the main environmental factors that influence the development of diseases in potato.

The sponsoring Center is the International Potato Center (CIP).

Bosibori Bwari Bett

Focus of Fellowship: Development of an efficient system for in vitro micro-propagation of disease-free planting materials of sweetpotato, so they can be disseminated more widely to farmers.

Ms Bett's work is being supervised by an IITA scientist who is under the umbrella of the BecA-ILRI Hub. BecA is an initiative developed within the framework of Centres of Excellence for Science and Technology in Africa. Hosted and managed by the International Livestock Research Institute in Nairobi, Kenya, the BecA Hub provides a common biosciences research platform, research-related services and capacity building opportunities to the region and beyond.

Focus of Fellowship: Documentation of dissemination and adoption of improved bean varieties on the basis of rural household and market surveys. CIAT

The sponsoring Center is CIAT.

Neena Amatya Gorkhali (Nepal)

Focus of Fellowship: Characterization of the genetic diversity of goats at the molecular level to help guide the use of this diversity for livestock improvement.

The sponsoring Center is the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).

Nashwa Mahmoud Adel-Atti (Egypt)
