President
Ren Wang
Director of the Consultative Group on International
Agricultural Research (CGIAR), a strategic alliance
of 64 members (including 24 developing and 22
industrialized countries), 12 international
organizations, 15 international agricultural research
centers, and many hundreds of civil society
organizations. Mr. Wang served since 2000 as Deputy Director General for Research at the CGIAR-supported International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), with headquarters in the Philippines. In that position, he managed the Institute’s research programs and outreach offices in 14 countries, providing leadership in the development of IRRI’s strategic plan and in the creation of new collaborative initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia. An entomologist by training, Mr. Wang pioneered a program for biological control of exotic pests in China and later promoted integrated pest management initiatives internationally from various posts, including Deputy Director of the International Institute of Biological Control (IIBC) of CAB International in the UK. Mr Wang holds a BS in plant protection from Shanxi Agricultural University, China; an MSc in biological control from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China; and a PhD in entomology from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Virginia, USA.

DirectorHank Fitzhugh
Henry A. (Hank) Fitzhugh, PhD, animal scientist and
agricultural systems specialist, has more than 35
years of experience in technical and senior
managerial capacities in agricultural research and
development institutions. He was the founding
Director General of the International Livestock
Research Institute (1995-2001), Kenya. He served as
director of research and Director General of the
International Livestock Centre for Africa, Ethiopia
(1990-94) and as animal scientist and program
director, Winrock International (1975-1990). From
1966 to 1973, he held joint appointments in animal
science, genetics and statistics at Texas A&M
University with responsibility for animal breeding
and production systems research. He has published
more than 150 publications with emphasis on research
priorities and strategies, agricultural production
systems, livestock genetics and management. |

Ruth Haug
Ruth Haug, Professor in Development studies, is the Head of Department, Department of International Environment and Development Studies * Noragric, Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB). Her Field of competence is within Rural development studies with focus on agriculture, food-and livelihood security (including poverty issues); peace and violent conflicts, forced migration, sustainable use and management of natural resources; agricultural extension, participation and community development; and gender issues in development. She earned a M.Sc in Crop Science at the Agricultural University of Norway, and a PhD in International Agricultural Extension and Community Development at the University of Maryland, USA. She has more than 20 years of experience in technical and managerial positions in agricultural research and development institutions in Norway and Africa. |

Treasurer and SecretaryShey Tata
Shey Tata has been with the CGIAR since 1990, first
as a finance consultant and eventually as Senior
Financial Officer. He has acquired broad experience
in finance for development through assignments as
interim director of finance at the Africa Rice Center
(WARDA) as well as in World Bank operations. More
recently, before his nomination to the IFAR Board, he
provided financial management support to the
revitalized IFAR. He is currently Team Leader of the
CGIAR Secretariat's Investor Relations and Finance
team. In this capacity, he also provides active
leadership in the CGIAR finance community, supports
and advises the CGIAR Director and Chairman on
finance-related issues, and works closely with CGIAR
Members and relevant World Bank units to ensure
efficient administration and accountability of CGIAR
resources channelled through the CGIAR Secretariat.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified
Accountants (AICPA), with professional focus on
not-for profit organizations. |
